Suriya’s Scene Review: Quirky Crime Comedy Scores 3/5

Suriya's Scene pairs a murder case with situational comedy. The 3/5 review: what works, what drags, and whether it's worth a watch this weekend.

Suriya's Scene: Quirky Crime Comedy Scores 3/5

Suriya’s Scene arrives as his third theatrical outing of 2026, and it asks an unusual question: can a murder investigation feel light? The 123telugu review rates the film 3/5, crediting its breezy character comedy while flagging a routine investigation underneath.

Why this release matters

The team behind Scene is part of the draw. Director Jithu Madhavan, known to Malayalam audiences, steps into Tamil cinema. Nazriya Fahadh returns to Kollywood after 12 years. Naslen plays a villain for the first time. Suriya, meanwhile, is having a busy year, with Scene as his third theatrical release of 2026.

The setup

DSP Prem Raj (Suriya) wants to resign, but his senior rejects the request because of his strong track record in solving serious crimes. He is handed a fresh murder case that resembles the pattern of the Perfume Killer (Tovino Thomas). With assistant Maya (Nazriya Fahadh), Prem takes the case even as a surprising personal truth surfaces. How he hunts the killer, and whether that secret becomes trouble, drives the rest.

What works

Jithu Madhavan avoids a heavy, dark mood. The review highlights simple humour and quirky character behaviour, which makes the film easy to watch. Suriya’s styling, body language and calm delivery feel fresh compared with his usual serious cop roles, and his comic timing lands. Nazriya Fahadh holds her own, and the banter between the leads creates fun moments — the mortuary proposal is singled out as a highlight. Naslen’s cool, casual villainy works well for a debut negative role. Sushin Shyam’s background score lifts the energy, and the visuals are clean.

Where it slips

The core plot remains a basic investigation story. The villain’s backstory is too thin to explain his crimes, which weakens the central conflict. The first half is slow and works only in bits. Hero-villain face-offs are mostly held back until the end, so the drama does not build steadily. Lal’s senior officer gets early laughs but vanishes in the second half. Tovino Thomas is fine, but the review notes he is underused for an actor of his calibre.

  • Rating: 3/5 from 123telugu
  • Release date: November 6, 2026
  • Director: Jithu Madhavan
  • Cast: Suriya, Nazriya Fahadh, Naslen, Tovino Thomas, Lal

Should you watch it?

For Hindi film fans sampling South releases, Scene is a soft landing: a crime comedy that leads with charm rather than scale. If you want a tight, high-stakes investigative thriller, the slow opening and underdeveloped motive may test your patience. If you are curious about Suriya’s lighter side and Nazriya’s return, the second half has enough fun to make this an easy one-time watch.
