Salman Khan’s Maatrubhumi Trailer: War, Wit and a Peace Plea
Salman Khan's Maatrubhumi trailer balances a soldier's family life, comic one-liners and a peace plea before its 4 December clash with Eetha.

Salman Khan’s next war film is shaping up to be more than a flag-waving action drama. The first trailer for Maatrubhumi May War Rest in Peace was shown to the media at a special preview this week, and it suggests a film that wants to make room for family, humour and a peace message alongside the battlefield.
What the trailer shows
The preview opens with a classic Salman Khan hero entry, then quickly places him in the uniform of an Indian soldier. Director Apoorva Lakhia does not keep the camera on the front line the whole time; he also takes us into the soldier’s home, his relationship with his wife and children, and the fear his wife carries about him not coming back.
That shift is useful context. War films often live and die by action, but the trailer is placing equal weight on what the soldier is protecting and what he leaves behind. For Hindi film fans, this is the first concrete sense of what Maatrubhumi is trying to sell: not just a battlefield spectacle, but a soldier’s whole world.
The tone swings from comedy to conviction
Salman’s character is shown as a fun-loving person who cracks jokes even under pressure. The trailer uses lines like "Schezwan me kuch kala hai" and a joke about abusing Chinese soldiers in Hindi so they will not understand. It is a deliberate move to keep the mood from becoming too heavy.
Then the mood turns. The same character refuses to back down when his battalion is outnumbered, and the trailer frames soldiers as people built for difficult situations. The combination of humour, patriotism and action is the real pitch here.
The peace plea
Towards the end, Salman’s character makes a remark about ending the enmity between the two countries. It dovetails with the film’s subtitle, May War Rest in Peace, and gives the trailer an emotional dimension beyond the usual war drama. War films in India often lean on loud chest-thumping; a film that uses its closing note to ask for peace is trying a different path.
Release date and box-office clash
- Directed by Apoorva Lakhia.
- Co-starring Chitrangda Singh.
- Releasing 4 December 2026.
- Opens against Shraddha Kapoor’s Eetha.
The official trailer is expected on YouTube within the next two days, as the makers are still working on the final edit and visual effects. Once it lands, fans will get a clearer look at how the film balances its commercial instincts with its peace-first closing note.
For now, the question is whether Salman Khan’s audience will follow him from one-liners to a plea for peace in the same film.
