Drishyam 3 ends at Rs 501.80 crore; no Drishyam 4

Abhishek Pathak says the Ajay Devgn-led thriller's story has ended, even as Drishyam 3: The Conclusion crosses Rs 501.80 crore worldwide in 12 days.

Drishyam 3 ends at Rs 501.80 crore; director rules out Drishyam 4

Mumbai: Director Abhishek Pathak has closed the book on the Drishyam franchise. Even with Drishyam 3: The Conclusion still pulling crowds in its second week, Pathak has ruled out a fourth instalment, calling the third film the final chapter of Vijay Salgaonkar’s story.

Why the director is saying no to Drishyam 4

Speaking to SCREEN, Pathak said a sequel cannot be willed into existence by an enthusiastic audience. “Drishyam isn’t the franchise where we can just decide to make another film. It’s very much dependent on the story, and the story has ended,” he said. He described the finale as “very poetic” and “a love letter to the franchise.”

That stance matters because the franchise has always run on tight plotting rather than star power alone. Pathak acknowledged that people have pitched a fourth part, and the premise could technically support more story. “If you get to it, there can be enormous amount of story to it, but that’s not the point,” he said.

Drishyam 3’s box office, in numbers

According to Sacnilk, the thriller has become one of the biggest successes of 2026:

  • First day: Rs 62 crore.
  • Opening week: Rs 245.50 crore.
  • First 12 days worldwide: Rs 501.80 crore.
  • India net in 12 days: Rs 323.50 crore.
  • Second weekend: more than Rs 60 crore.

The film is now Ajay Devgn’s highest-grossing release to date and the second highest-grossing Indian film of 2026, moving past the reported lifetime totals of Border 2, Toxic, Jana Nayagan and Peddi.

The ending he wants fans to protect

Pathak argued that the team had to stop somewhere. “We had to stop it at some point, and this was a beautiful ending to the franchise. Drishyam 3 is only in its second week right now. People are still coming to theatres in huge numbers. The second weekend was more than Rs 60 crore. That’s a figure too many films don’t achieve even in their lifetime. So, let’s not spoil it for them,” he said.

His request to fans is simple: treat the film as a complete arc rather than a launchpad for another sequel. It is a push for restraint in an industry where a hit usually means a franchise expands immediately.

What the film is about, and who is praising it

The instalment brings Ajay Devgn back as Vijay Salgaonkar, whose carefully guarded secrets come under threat once again when a Crime Branch officer reopens the case. Tabu, Shriya Saran, Ishita Dutta and Jaideep Ahlawat appear in pivotal roles.

The ending has also earned applause from Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, who led the original Drishyam films in Malayalam. “I watched Drishyam: The Conclusion, and I am truly impressed with the way they have brought this much-loved journey to a befitting end,” he said.

For Hindi film fans, Pathak’s announcement removes any ambiguity: Drishyam 3 is meant to be the goodbye. The question now is whether audiences will accept the farewell, even as the numbers keep climbing.
