Janhvi Kapoor Recreates Sridevi’s Nagina Look for Halloween

Janhvi Kapoor marked Halloween by channelling Sridevi's iconic Nagina look, with Orry as Rishi Kapoor, in a tribute fans are calling a winner.

Janhvi Kapoor reimagines Sridevi's Nagina with Orry

Halloween in Bollywood is usually a chance for spooky costumes and filmi cosplay. This year, Janhvi Kapoor turned hers into something far more personal: she recreated the look of her mother Sridevi from the 1986 fantasy classic Nagina. Orry joined the frame as Rishi Kapoor, completing a tribute that quickly travelled from a daughter’s Instagram to fan timelines everywhere.

A costume with a memory

Posting the pictures, the Peddi actor wrote that she had to recreate “one of the most iconic movie moments everrrrr.” For Janhvi, the brief Halloween note was also a family statement. She pointed out that pop culture has made Halloween about beloved characters, and sometimes a costume is really a tribute. To her, no one was more iconic than “Mumma, Rishi uncle and Amrish sir.”

Sister Khushi Kapoor kept the verdict short and sweet.

You have won Halloween.

The post included a nod to the film’s poster and little mock shoot-diary moments, letting fans relive Nagina through a modern, affectionate lens.

Why Nagina still matters

For many Hindi film fans, Nagina is not just a movie; it is one of the definitive fantasy films of the 1980s. Directed by Harmesh Malhotra and produced under the Eastern Films banner, the film arrived on November 28, 1986. Ravi Kapoor wrote the screenplay while the story came from Jagmohan Kapoor.

The plot follows Rajni, played by Sridevi, a woman with a serpent secret, who marries Rishi Kapoor’s Rajiv to settle a score with a dangerous holy man. Amrish Puri, Komal Mahuvakar, Sushma Seth and Prem Chopra rounded out the cast.

  • Released on November 28, 1986
  • Became the second-highest-grossing Indian film of that year
  • Made Sridevi’s Nagina avatar an enduring fantasy-era image

A tribute that reads like legacy, not loss

Janhvi’s Halloween choice works because it lets audiences remember Sridevi as the larger-than-life performer she was, not only through the sadness of her passing. Sridevi died in February 2018 in Dubai at the age of 54; her death was recorded as accidental drowning. A public tribute like this turns a costume holiday into a quiet act of legacy-keeping, and fans have responded to exactly that warmth.

For anyone who grew up with Nagina, the images are a time machine. For younger viewers, it is an invitation to discover why this film still holds a place in Bollywood’s imagination.
