Udta Teer Sunday hits Rs 8.10 cr; opening weekend Rs 19.45 cr

Udta Teer scored Rs 8.10 crore India net on Sunday, its highest single day, taking the opening weekend to Rs 19.45 crore.

Udta Teer tops its opening weekend with Rs 8.10 cr Sunday

Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan’s Udta Teer closed its opening weekend on an upswing. The spy comedy collected Rs 8.10 crore India net on Sunday, its best day so far, taking the three-day India total to Rs 19.45 crore.

A weekend that kept climbing

That Sunday number did not come out of nowhere. The film opened at Rs 4.10 crore on Friday, jumped to Rs 7.25 crore on Saturday, and rose again on Sunday, an 11.7% lift over day two. For a star-led Bollywood title, that is the healthier pattern: a slow Friday followed by growth, rather than a front-loaded opening that fizzles.

  • Friday: Rs 4.10 crore net, 13% occupancy across 6,265 shows
  • Saturday: Rs 7.25 crore net, 21% occupancy across 6,164 shows
  • Sunday: Rs 8.10 crore net, 25% occupancy across 6,020 shows

Worldwide, the film has grossed Rs 27.58 crore so far: Rs 23.08 crore from domestic markets and Rs 4.50 crore from overseas. The show count stayed steady through the weekend: 6,265 on Friday, 6,164 on Saturday, and 6,020 on Sunday.

The crowd curve matters more than the total

Audience behaviour offers a clearer clue. Overall occupancy rose from 13% on Friday to 21% on Saturday and 25% on Sunday. The Hindi 2D version did even better on Sunday, filling 35.91% of seats across the day. Evening shows led with 47.08%, followed by afternoon at 39.54% and night at 37.46%; morning shows managed 12.08%.

The pattern points to word-of-mouth at work. Moviegoers are not just showing up for first-day curiosity; they are choosing later slots and pulling friends along. Total footfalls stand at 866,929 after three days, with 361,245 admissions on Sunday alone.

For the exhibition sector, the three-day trend is the sort of small win that matters in a market where even established stars are seeing uneven openings. A low Friday with a rising Saturday and Sunday suggests that the audience is finding the film more than the marketing did.

For fans deciding whether to book, the day-part data offers a practical pointer: evening Hindi 2D shows are currently the liveliest. If you want the full house energy, plan for a post-work or night screening rather than a morning show.

Why the Monday hold is the real test

Opening-weekend momentum is useful only if it survives a working Monday. For Udta Teer, the next bar is simple: hold a good chunk of Sunday’s business. A solid Monday would signal that the film is being discovered beyond its star power; a sharp drop would mean the weekend was mostly event-driven.

Written and directed by Aakash Kaushik in his directorial debut, the film is built on Ayushmann’s knack for off-centre heroes and Sara’s growing comic timing. The supporting cast includes Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Gulshan Grover, Mukul Dev, Suhail Nayyar, Supriya Pilgaonkar, Brijendra Kala and Sandeep Anand. It also marks the second posthumous screen appearance of Mukul Dev, who died in 2025.
