Badshah, Kapil and Mika defend Daler Mehndi after drunk row

Badshah, Kapil Sharma and Mika Singh have spoken up after a BJP MLA accused Daler Mehndi of being drunk on stage. Here's what each of them said.

Badshah, Kapil and Mika defend Daler Mehndi after stage row

A clip from a Daler Mehndi stage show in Narendranagar has turned into a public argument about how artists should be treated when a performance goes wrong. In the video, Uttarakhand minister Subodh Uniyal walks towards the singer, says he appears disoriented, and accuses him of being under the influence of alcohol.

The moment travelled fast. Some users mocked the singer, while fans hit back. Then several well-known voices from music and comedy stepped in to defend Mehndi.

An allegation on stage

Subodh Uniyal, a BJP MLA, objected to the performance in front of the audience. His claim was not just that the singing was below standard, but that the singer was drunk. That charge made the clip particularly damaging because it questioned both professionalism and character.

The support from Badshah and Kapil Sharma

Rapper Badshah wrote on his Instagram story that Mehndi is a legend and that disappointment should not become public humiliation. He called the treatment of an artist who had given so much to the music industry ‘extremely disheartening’.

Kapil Sharma took a different but related line. Sharing a video from Mehndi’s brother Mika Singh, Kapil said the singer had been through serious surgery that most people did not know about. His message was simple: people should not judge without knowing what another person may be going through.

Kapil also thanked Mika for adding clarity and wished Mehndi a quick recovery.

Mika Singh’s strong defence

Mika Singh, Mehndi’s younger brother, was the most direct. He said he would quit music if anyone could prove that his brother drinks. His video carried the line, ‘If you ever see Daler Mehndi drinking alcohol, I will quit singing.’

Mika acknowledged that the minister had paid for the event and had every right to question the quality of the show. But he said the drinking allegation was entirely false, that Mehndi was still recovering after major surgery, and that a three-decade career as a superstar had never been linked to alcohol.

What the viral moment leaves open

At the heart of this story is a question fans love to debate: how much should a paying organiser accept on the night, and how much should an artist’s private health be respected?

  • Performing is physical work, and recovery from surgery can affect energy, movement and voice.
  • A paid event gives organisers a right to quality, but not the right to make health accusations in public.
  • Peer support like this can shift the online narrative, but it cannot erase the original clip or the crowd’s experience.

For now, neither side appears to have changed its position. The minister stands by his complaint, while Mehndi’s family and industry friends say the real story is recovery after surgery. That leaves the audience with a straightforward question: was this a performance failure, a conduct failure, or a failure of care?
