Jailer 2 anthem row as worldwide gross hits Rs628 cr
A Karur theatre is under scrutiny after a film song reportedly replaced the National Anthem before Jailer 2, even as worldwide gross hit Rs628 cr.

Rajinikanth’s latest blockbuster is answering questions after a pre-show mix-up in Tamil Nadu.
A screening of Jailer 2 at Ajantha Ellora Cinemas on Coimbatore Road, Karur, has gone viral for the wrong reason. According to a report by Mid Day, the theatre displayed the Indian National Flag on screen before the film began, but a commercial film song reportedly played instead of Jana Gana Mana.
Videos of the episode have been circulating on social media. The report does not establish why the song was selected or whether the theatre has put out an official explanation yet.
Why the mix-up matters
The pre-show flag and anthem sequence is a standard ritual in Indian cinemas, and an audio error can quickly become a local controversy. The timing is awkward because Jailer 2 is one of the season’s biggest theatrical draws and any small lapse tends to overshadow the film itself.
The box office stays strong
Even as the video spreads, the film’s commercial run continues. On Friday, October 23, Jailer 2 earned Rs14.50 crore net in India from 10,484 shows, according to Sacnilk. That was a 15.5% dip from Thursday’s Rs17.15 crore.
Here is the fuller picture:
- Worldwide gross: Rs628.05 crore, combining domestic and international markets.
- Tamil contribution: Rs9.35 crore India net from 4,885 screenings.
- Share of the day’s domestic net: 64.5% from Tamil-language shows.
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the action drama brings the filmmaker and Rajinikanth back together after 2023’s Jailer. The cast also includes Suraj Venjaramoodu, SJ Suryah and Vidya Balan, among others.
What fans can do now
The responsible move is to wait for an official statement from either Ajantha Ellora Cinemas or the film’s team. Until then, treat the clips as one part of the story, not the full picture. The episode does not change what is already visible on the books: Jailer 2 remains a pan-Indian earner with Tamil audiences carrying the bulk of domestic footfalls.
