Jailer 2 gives Hrithik a 40-year Rajinikanth reunion
Hrithik Roshan's Jailer 2 cameo as Roddy rescues Rajinikanth's Tiger and repays a bond that began in Bhagwan Dada four decades ago.

Spoiler alert: this piece walks through Hrithik Roshan’s Jailer 2 cameo in detail. If you want to go in cold, save it for after the film.
The scene is already being talked about as one of the sequel’s biggest surprises, not simply because a Bollywood star shows up, but because the film gives his arrival a small, personal reason to exist.
Roddy’s entry: a rescue built on an old debt
In Jailer 2, Rajinikanth’s Tiger Muthuvel Pandian is cornered. Bodhi Kalpak, played by SJ Suryah, is closing in, and even trusted allies Narasimha, Mathew and Kamdev may not be enough to turn the tide. Kamdev’s warning is followed by a phone call, and the stage is set for Hrithik’s Roddy, who arrives by smashing through a wall.
Roddy’s first words matter more than the debris. He tells Tiger that he has never forgotten help given to him two decades earlier. India Today reports the exchange: “Anytime, anything for you, sir,” before he kisses Tiger’s hand. The moment reframes the cameo from a flashy rescue to a debt being repaid.
Then Hrithik flips his sunglasses as he walks beside Rajinikanth. It is a playful salute to the older star’s iconic style, and for many viewers it will be the blink-and-you-miss-it detail that gives the sequence its heart.
A 40-year equation that started with Bhagwan Dada
The history behind that sunglasses flip is longer than most fans may realise. At 12, Hrithik played Govind in Bhagwan Dada, the child taken in by Rajinikanth’s character. Hrithik’s father, Rakesh Roshan, was also part of the film.
At the January 2025 trailer launch of The Roshans, Hrithik remembered how little he understood about the moment then. To him, the superstar was simply “Rajni uncle.” He also recalled Rajinikanth’s gentleness, saying the older actor would take the blame when a shot went wrong so the child would not shoulder it.
By early 2025, Hrithik was already saying he wanted to work with Rajinikanth again. Jailer 2 now gives that wish a frame, turning a childhood association into a full-circle star moment.
What to watch for in the sequence
- The hand kiss: It makes Roddy’s action a personal repayment, not just a rescue.
- The sunglasses flip: A direct nod to Rajinikanth’s screen mannerisms.
- The later group entry: Roddy returns in a workman’s jumpsuit, bronzed, pierced and leading four women including Bani.
That later arrival has a Charlie’s Angels-style flourish, but the quieter exchange is what makes the cameo stick. Hrithik may match Rajinikanth’s swagger now, but the scene is designed to remind us that he first learned from him on a film set four decades ago.
