Jailer 2 Is 8 Days Out, but the Buzz Is Missing
Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 opens October 15 with a huge cast and 12-track album, but eight days out the buzz is thinner than the first Jailer.

Eight days before Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 opens on October 15, the conversation around the film is quieter than its January 2025 teaser announcement. That teaser was treated almost like a festival, with special screenings and fan celebrations. The sequel now has nearly every ingredient for a blockbuster: Rajinikanth, Nelson Dilipkumar and Anirudh Ravichander, plus Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar, Vidya Balan, SJ Suryah and Mithun Chakraborty. Yet the heat has thinned, and the question India Today asks is: “Where is the buzz?”
The musical engine hasn’t taken over
With the first Jailer, Anirudh’s music did heavy lifting. Kaavaalaa became a cultural moment and Hukum became an anthem. The 12-track Jailer 2 album arrived October 2, but it has largely sparked comparisons instead of new frenzy. Ala Bolelo generated conversation and some criticism for its Malayalam portions; Bindaas, despite featuring Nora Fatehi, has not matched that heat; and One Name and One Sun One Moon have appeal without catching fire. Hukum Reloaded makes comparison with the original inevitable.
Cameos are leading the campaign
The first film let audiences discover Tiger. Muthuvel Pandian was introduced as a retired husband and father before his past emerged, and the cameos arrived after the story had been set. Jailer 2 appears to have reversed that equation. Hrithik Roshan’s reported appearance is now the trailer’s main talking point, with viewers trying to pick him out of a silhouette. The chatter is about who is in the film, not what Tiger’s next chapter holds.
That has a recent cautionary model. Aamir Khan’s much-publicised cameo in Coolie divided audiences, showing how a casting announcement can build expectations the film itself struggles to match.
What could still work
Jailer worked because several things clicked together:
- Rajinikanth’s screen presence in a more ordinary, age-embracing role
- Nelson’s storytelling and family humour
- Anirudh’s music doing the promotional work
- Cameos as a payoff, not the pitch
Jailer 2 has scale and cast, but no defining musical or story moment yet. It has skipped the traditional grand audio launch, with Rajinikanth’s three-hour television interview on October 11 as one of the final major events. After Coolie, War 2, Toxic and The Paradise, a quieter approach might even protect the film from overhype.
The original Jailer became a phenomenon inside theatres. If Jailer 2 delivers something worth discovering, the buzz can still arrive after the lights go down.
