Ramayana Part 1 Collects Rs 230 Crore Worldwide in 2 Days

Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, Sai Pallavi and Sunny Deol's Ramayana Part 1 posts Diwali's biggest Hindi opening and Rs 230 crore worldwide in two days.

Ramayana Part 1: Rs 230 Crore Worldwide in 2 Days

Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, Sai Pallavi and Sunny Deol’s Ramayana Part 1: Rise of Legend has given the Diwali weekend the jolt the box office was waiting for. The epic opened across roughly 4,800 screens and immediately claimed the biggest Diwali opening in Hindi cinema, according to trade figures.

Record start, then a quieter second day

On day one, the film collected ₹43 crore nett in Hindi (₹45 crore with 3D glass charges) and ₹60 crore nett across all languages. That put it ahead of the previous Diwali benchmarks set by Tiger 3 at ₹42.25 crore in 2023 and Singham Again at ₹40 crore in 2024. Worldwide, the first day closed at ₹130 crore gross. Kannada led the non-Hindi languages, which contributed ₹17 crore nett.

Day two showed the pre-Diwali effect. Hindi collection slipped to ₹33.25 crore nett (₹35 crore with 3D), while all languages contributed ₹45 crore nett. After two days, the Hindi tally is ₹76.25 crore nett and the global gross stands at ₹230 crore.

Overseas contributed $9.09 million (about ₹85.55 crore gross) over the first two days.

A huge budget, and a very high bar

The first weekend feels like a celebration, but the economics are unforgiving. The production budget alone is estimated at ₹1,000-1,100 crore, with the total cost landing at ₹1,300-1,500 crore once promotions are included. Sony Pictures has reportedly spent about $25 million (₹235 crore) on overseas marketing, while Prime Focus’s prints and advertising bill is around $15 million (₹140 crore), largely aimed at the US market.

The producers have floated a $500 million (₹4,000 crore) figure for both parts combined, though the trade treats that number as high. For this film to break even, it needs ₹1,600-1,700 crore worldwide. In Hindi, it was sold to Dharma for ₹275 crore and must cross ₹550 crore. Overseas markets need roughly $65 million, with at least $30 million expected from the US and Canada.

What the next four days will tell us

For audiences, the big screen event has already worked. But for the industry, the recovery is the real story. A strong Diwali opening can be front-loaded; a sustained run after the holiday decides whether a film of this scale becomes a success. Advances for day three are strong, and day five — the day after Diwali — is expected to be the strongest of the run.

  • Hindi opening day: ₹43 crore nett trade (₹45 crore with 3D)
  • Two-day worldwide gross: ₹230 crore
  • Break-even: ₹1,600-1,700 crore worldwide; ₹550 crore in Hindi
  • Overseas two-day gross: $9.09 million (₹85.55 crore)

Ramayana Part 1 also took the 16th highest opening day among pan-India films in India and the 13th highest worldwide, which underlines how rare a truly event-size Indian opening is. The next four days will show whether the film can hold beyond the festive surge.
