Ramayana Day 1 Box Office Falls Below Adipurush at Rs 64.85 Crore
Ramayana: Rise of a Legend opened at Rs 64.85 crore net in India, below Adipurush's Rs 86.75 crore Day 1, as fans reopen the 2023 non-sequel record.

Prabhas fans have turned a new release into a three-year-old box office flex. Ramayana: Rise of a Legend hit cinemas on November 5, 2026, with Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama and Sai Pallavi as Sita. Within hours, social media was comparing its first-day score with Adipurush (2023), where Prabhas played the same deity. The older film’s opening is the bar, and the new epic fell short.
What the Day 1 numbers say
According to Sacnilk, Ramayana: Rise of a Legend earned Rs 64.85 crore nett in India on Day 1, across 25,200 shows, with a worldwide gross of Rs 127.50 crore. Adipurush had opened to Rs 86.75 crore nett in India and Rs 128.08 crore worldwide gross. So the new film trails on the domestic figure that fans use for first-day bragging rights, even though it arrived with a wide, multi-language push.
For Ramayana, Hindi led the domestic collection. The dubbed versions added up as follows:
- Kannada: Rs 7.25 crore from 1,197 shows
- Telugu: Rs 6 crore from 1,776 shows
- Tamil: Rs 2.60 crore from 992 shows
- Malayalam: Rs 1.50 crore from 557 shows
In 2023, Adipurush‘s opening was powered by the Telugu version first, with Hindi following — a sign of how film-watching has become a truly pan-India game.
Why the comparison went viral
The fans’ point is sharper than a simple number. Adipurush was widely trolled for its visual effects and adaptation choices, yet its Day 1 record survived. One X user wrote that it remains “the only non-sequel Bollywood film to achieve a Rs 100 crore opening in India.” That is a useful measure because sequels and franchises often open big on inherited goodwill; a non-sequel has to create its own urgency.
Fans also contrasted budgets. A viral post claimed Ramayana was made on a reported Rs 4,000 crore against Rs 500-700 crore for Adipurush, and argued that the older film still came out ahead in the opening-day comparison. Another fan wrote, “Never thought I’d be flexing Adipurush’s Day 1 records, but here we are!” In other words, scale does not automatically buy a first-day stampede.
The milestone Ramayana did manage
For Ranbir Kapoor, Day 1 still delivered a personal milestone. Social media users noted that the film recorded his “second Rs 100 crore opening” after Animal‘s Rs 116 crore gross, and that the new epic crossed the Rs 120 crore opening number associated with Jawan. That places Ramayana: Rise of a Legend at number three among the relevant openers, behind Dhurandhar 2 and Adipurush.
The cast is one reason the film opened wide. Alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi, Ramayana: Rise of a Legend features Ravie Dubey as Lakshman, Yash as Ravana, and Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman. The question now shifts from casting scale to staying power: weekday holds and the weekend trend will show whether the opening is a one-day spike or the start of a longer reign.
For fans of both epics, the comparison is a reminder that a record opening is built on advance bookings, star pull, and urgency — not only on money. Adipurush won the first day despite the criticism because audiences chose to show up. Ramayana now has to earn the same repeat trust for the rest of its run.
