Mookuthi Amman 2 Opens at Rs 1.88 Cr; Jailer 2 Hits Rs 824.25 Cr

Two Tamil releases are telling two very different box-office stories this week. Nayanthara’s Mookuthi Amman 2 has opened at Rs 1.88 crore net, while Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has moved past Rs 824.25 crore worldwide and is now slowing late in its run.

Mookuthi Amman 2: a modest start led by Tamil Nadu

Released on November 6, 2026, Mookuthi Amman 2 collected Rs 1.88 crore net in India on day one, with a domestic gross of Rs 2.15 crore from 2,127 Tamil and Telugu shows. That works out to an average of Rs 8,839 per show, which underlines how much the film leans on its core Tamil audience.

The Tamil version led the opening, while the Telugu version was a smaller contributor.

• Tamil: Rs 1.75 crore net from 1,881 shows at 24% occupancy.
• Telugu: Rs 13 lakh net from 246 shows at 25% occupancy.
• Night shows were the bright spot at 36.38% occupancy, versus 14.31% in the morning.

Tamil accounted for 93.1% of the day-one India net total, with Telugu at 6.9%. Tamil Nadu alone contributed Rs 1.80 crore to the domestic gross, or 83.7%, while Andhra Pradesh and Telangana added Rs 15 lakh, Karnataka Rs 10 lakh, Kerala Rs 7 lakh, and the rest of India Rs 3 lakh.

The film stars Nayanthara as Goddess Mookuthi Amman in dual or multiple roles, alongside Duniya Vijay, Regina Cassandra as the dark sorceress, and Urvashi.

Jailer 2: a blockbuster settling into its final laps

On the other side of the box-office cycle, Jailer 2 now stands at Rs 824.25 crore worldwide gross. The film’s daily tempo has dropped, though. On day 23 it earned Rs 60 lakh net in India from 619 shows, a 62.5% fall from Rs 1.60 crore the previous day.

The Tamil version contributed Rs 45 lakh from 364 shows, Telugu added Rs 9 lakh from 113 shows, Hindi Rs 5 lakh from 117 shows, and Kannada Rs 1 lakh from 25 shows. Overseas markets added Rs 10 lakh on the day, taking the international gross to Rs 276.60 crore.

So far, Jailer 2 has accumulated Rs 468.25 crore India net and Rs 547.65 crore India gross. The film sold around 43,388 tickets on day 23, with cumulative ticket sales at 3,19,48,474 during the run.

What the weekend will tell us

For Mookuthi Amman 2, the evening pickup is a small reason for optimism, but the weekend has to do the heavy lifting. If the film cannot widen beyond Tamil Nadu, its first-day number may set the tone for a front-loaded run.

For Jailer 2, the late-run slowdown is natural for a big-ticket sequel this deep into its run. Its worldwide total is already a strong result, but the falling day-on-day pace means any further additions will come in smaller increments.
