RC17 locks casting by December, shoot begins February 2027
RC17 is expected to lock its female lead by December, with the Ram Charan-Sukumar film's regular shoot planned for February 2027.

Ram Charan and director Sukumar’s next, currently titled RC17, has moved from a grand pooja ceremony to real pre-production conversations. The team is expected to lock the film’s female lead by the end of December, with the regular shoot now reportedly lined up for February 2027.
Casting decision due by December
According to a report cited by The Times of India, Sara Arjun and Satvika Veeravalli are among the names being discussed for the role. Director Sukumar is said to be keeping the heroine’s details under wraps for now, and a final call is expected later this month or in early December.
The project was officially launched with a pooja ceremony in Hyderabad. Megastar Chiranjeevi performed the traditional coconut-breaking ritual and gave the film its first clap, and the makers released a video from the event.
A peacock-feather pre-look
After the ceremony, a special pre-look poster was shared. It shows a stylised portrait of Ram Charan in broad strokes of blue, green and gold, with the design resembling a peacock feather.
Sharing the poster, Ram Charan wrote, “This one is extremely special. So happy to collaborate with my dearest Sukumar garu once again. #RC17 journey begins.”
Why this reunion matters
RC17 marks Ram Charan and Sukumar’s first film together after Rangasthalam, their successful earlier collaboration. That shared history gives the new project a ready fan base, and the early poster and launch event have added to the anticipation.
For fans, the tentative timeline is simple:
- Female lead: final call likely by the end of December
- Regular shoot: reportedly February 2027
- Cast and crew: further details still to be announced
Ram Charan was last seen in the sports action drama Peddi, directed by Buchi Babu Sana. With RC17, he steps back into a collaboration that many Telugu film fans have been waiting to see again.
What looks different this time
Unlike a typical announcement that reveals the heroine at the launch, RC17 has kept the female lead under wraps even after the pooja. That small piece of suspense has turned the casting news into a talking point, with names circulating while the team stays quiet. If the report holds, the wait will not be long: a final decision is expected before the year closes, and the regular schedule would begin roughly two months later.
The choice of blue, green and gold also gives the campaign a distinct visual identity before a single frame is shot. For a reunion built on goodwill, that is an early sign the team wants RC17 to feel like an event.
The next concrete update to watch for is the heroine announcement. That should confirm the casting direction and set the stage for the planned February start.
