Shreya Ghoshal’s Cosy Home: Piano, City Views, Bengali Bhetki

Farah Khan gets a rare tour of Shreya Ghoshal's Mumbai home, from a rehearsal piano and wall-bed music room to a city-view balcony and Bengali bhetki lunch.

Shreya Ghoshal's Cosy Mumbai Home: Piano, Balcony, Bhetki

Shreya Ghoshal opened the doors of her Mumbai home to Farah Khan and her cook Dilip on the latest episode of Food with Farah, giving fans a rare look at the space where one of India’s most awarded playback singers rehearses, hosts and unwinds.

A warm, open home built for music and chai

The house reads as cosy rather than showy. A wooden-finish entrance and a few cabinets outside the main door lead into cream-walled interiors lit by soft yellow light. The living, dining and lounge areas share one open layout, which makes the home feel larger and easier for conversation.

The dining area has a wooden table, a bench and four chairs. Right beside it sits a black piano that Shreya uses for rehearsals. In the lounge, two beige sofas in an L-shape and orange-brown accent chairs gather around a coffee table. There is no television in the living room. Instead, the seating faces a balcony filled with planters and two wooden chairs that look out to city views—an ideal spot for morning tea or an evening chai.

The guest room does double duty

The most practical reveal is the guest room. Shreya uses the same room as a music and rehearsal space, and she installed a wall bed so visitors can sleep comfortably without the room being dominated by a permanent bed. When no guest is staying, the space stays open for her instruments and family time.

The kitchen follows a similarly uncluttered approach: a black countertop, white cabinets and printed tiles behind the counter add a small pop of colour. For lunch, Shreya made Bengali bhetki, a fish preparation where the fish is marinated and cooked in banana leaves. Farah brought her roast chicken, making it a two-chef meal.

A reminder of Shreya’s musical footprint

The home tour is also a quick reminder of why the conversation around her holds so much weight. Shreya has won five National Film Awards and has sung in more than 15 Indian languages, including Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi, Bengali and Marathi. Her vocals have powered songs from Devdas, Main Hoon Na, Jab We Met, Paheli and Ramayana.

Why the home visit clicks

Fans rarely see the everyday spaces behind a playback voice, so home and food formats work as a humanising shortcut. For our readers, the episode offers three small, usable ideas:

  • A rehearsal piano next to the dining table turns the music room into part of daily life.
  • Seating that faces a balcony can replace the TV as the living room’s focal point.
  • A wall bed lets a guest room moonlight as a music or work space.

The episode ended with the show’s customary gift exchange: this time, Shreya gave Farah a goodie bag from the Unstoppable Tour.
